ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

Information Systems Major

Course Checksheet | IS Faculty

Business 2.0 recently published the results of a study, "Which ten jobs will be the fastest growing jobs in the next ten years?" Three of those top ten jobs are IS jobs: Network Systems Analyst, Network System Administrator, and Database Administrator. Two of the remaining seven jobs were computer hardware and software development jobs. In the preceding year CNN ran a similar study that listed four IS jobs in their top ten-the same three listed by Business 2.0 plus Computer Software Applications specialist.

The major in Information Systems can prepare you for this coming bonanza. As an IS major you will learn about computer hardware and software, database design, data communication, electronic commerce, systems analysis and design methodologies, behavioral issues and the business and administrative context within which computer systems are used. IS is the most rapidly growing field in business. The importance of information technology in the U.S. and throughout the world will only continue to climb and those who are prepared to take advantage of this hot climate can expect to excel. The world has changed and it is not changing back.

Firms and government agencies throughout North Alabama are at the forefront of this information technology development. A study by Wharton Economic Forecasting Associates shows that the Huntsville Metro area has the second highest concentration of technology workers in the entire United States. Local, regional, and national organizations require the services of employees who are sophisticated in the use, definition, analysis, design, implementation, and operation of information systems.

In addition to the undergraduate program in IS, the College offers a Master's degree in Information Systems (IS) and a graduate certificate program in security and information assurance, which is officially sanctioned by the National Security Agency. The IS major is offered during the day; the graduate program is an evening program.

Come let us help you succeed.
